The Men’s Choir first choir director,  Michael Penick, received his MFA in 2014 and is living in New York City.  We wish him the best in his career and send many thanks to him for sharing his talent and for his guidance.   We are delighted to report that have a new director.

Mike is an Iowa native, growing up in Cedar Rapids and loving singing since starting with the First Lutheran Cherub choir in kindergarten.  He has sung in various church choirs and school choirs in high school and college, as well as singing with the Cedar Rapids Concert mikeChorale for two seasons.  He holds a B.A. in theatre arts and Spanish from UNI, a B.A. in elementary education from Mt. Mercy, and an M.A.T. from Coe College.  He has worked in education with elementary grades and as the education coordinator at Theatre Cedar Rapids.  He has also worked providing direct care for individuals with disabilities through REM Iowa and currently works as a day habilitation trainer in Cedar Rapids with Goodwill of the Heartland.  Mike is pleased to have the opportunity to work with these fine young men in exploring their talents through music as we get to know each other and grow as a little community.

The Men’s choir rehearses on Thursdays at 5:30 at Uptown Bill’s. Now in their third year, the Men’s Choir has performed locally at the Mill, the Englert, Riverside Theatre, the Coralville Center for the Parforming Arts, the Iowa City Community Theatre,  Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and the Sheraton Hotel.  They can be booked for events.
